100 Abandoned Houses
Kevin Bauman started photographing abandonment in Detroit about ten years ago, as a creative outlet and to satisfy his curiosity with the state of his hometown. He had always found it to be amazing, depressing, and perplexing that a once great city could find itself in such great distress, all the while surrounded by such affluence. As the number of images grew, and a documentary style emerged, he decided to name the series 100 Abandoned Houses. Once a city of almost 2 million citizens, Detroit has since lost over more than half of its population over the last 60 years and now counts about 12,000 abandoned houses. That being said, Kevin Bauman is not likely to be threaten to run out of abandonment content any time soon.

17 septembre 2012What a beautiful idea to capture these homes. Yet, it’s still so sad to consider who once lived in these homes and where they went to. x

17 septembre 2012I agree with both of you. Strangely, I get a magical eerie feeling when I look at these houses.. Must be nostalgia for a time I’ve never known!

18 septembre 2012Well, I heard a lot of artists are actually moving there due to the very affordable rent in certain parts of the city. They can afford to rent out gigantic factories and turn them into art lofts for ridiculously cheap prices.
