DIY painted tights

Since I’ve spotted this girl’s really cute tights with lip designs on her knees, I’ve been thinking about making my own cute tights with knee designs. Turns out there’s a super easy way to do it: cut out a stencil and apply fabric paint. Then let dry, and that’s it!

What you need:

  • Tights
  • Fabric paint (I used Opaque Setacolor from DeSerres)
  • An X-acto knife
  • Cardstock
  • A paintbrush

On your cardstock, draw your design. Then cut out the inner part.

Now put on your tights and place your stencil where you want your design to be.

Tip: I first tested this whole thing out on thin dark nylon tights and the result was too subtle for what I had in mind. So if you want a solid pattern, use thicker light colored tights.

Time to paint. To avoid leaks, hold your stencil firmly and stay still. Once the paint dries, carefully take off your tights and you’re done!

Thanks Maguie! I’m not sure what brand they are because I found them in a thrift store in Québec. Yes, I’m French too :) If you like that style of ankle booty, check back the store often because we always have some!
