DIY waffle pillow from blanket

I’ve been coveting West Elm’s homey Trellis Pillow and knowing how unskillful I am at knitting and crocheting, I took a simpler route by recreating this cozy pillow with a thrifted blanket!

Materials:
- Pillow
- Thrifted blanket or large knitted sweater
- Scissors
- Pencil, soap, or fabric chalk
- Sewing machine

I found a waffle knit blanket at my local thrift store, but you can use a large sweater depending on the size of your pillow.  Chunky cable knits or even sweaters with large buttons would look great as a throw pillow!

I found a waffle knit blanket at my local thrift store, but you can use a large sweater depending on the size of your pillow.  Chunky cable knits or even sweaters with large buttons would look great as a throw pillow!

Wrap your material around the pillow to make sure it fits and to get an idea of how it will look.

Sew two sides together using a single stitch, while leaving a half inch seam allowance.

Sew a zig zag stitch to finish the seam around the opening. Leave a large enough opening to insert your pillow.  Turn your pillow cover right side out.

Now  turn your blanket over or flip your sweater inside out. Measure and mark accordingly.  Give about 1 inch allowance for sewing and any fraying.  I chose to cut along only two edges (L shape) keeping the finished seams.

Shake it around and adjust the corners until it looks right.  Finish the pillow by hand stitching the opening closed.  You’re finished!
