The French singer/actress Soko played a very intimate show this past Monday at Doug Fir in Portland. Although, the venue felt larger than it should have been, Soko made up for the small crowd by unleashing a torrent of energy. From wildly depressed to loopy, Soko displayed a full spectrum of emotions. The singer shared her heart breaks and negativity through an incredibly funny black humor. To a certain extend, Soko could easily be the French version of the iconoclastic singer/songwriter Daniel Johnston. Just like Johnston, her lyrics, unabashed and poignant, leave you emotionally drained, in a good way.
